Carloforte is located approximately 7km off the southwestern coast of Sardinia on the Isola di San Pietro (Saint Peter's Island). This comune is part of the Sardinian province of Carbonia-Iglesias. What makes this island so unique is that the people do not speak the Sardinian language. The island was colonized in the 18th century by a group of fisherman from an area in Genoa, which is why the majority of the people speak the Genoese dialect.
