Start Here for a photo tour of the Montagna Spaccata in Gaeta, which is located in the Lazio region, or select from the list below. Legend tells us that when Jesus was crucified on the cross this mountain literally split. As you walk through the mountain you will come across La Mano del Turco, which is a handprint of a Turkish sailor embedded into the mountain. The Turkish sailor doubted that the mountain cracked when Jesus died and asked for a sign proving that it did. The area around his hand turned to liquid leaving an imprint. It is an amazing place to visit and one worth the trip if you are in the area.
