Imagine turning on a faucet nearly 2,000 years ago.
Ancient Rome made that possible through an extraordinary system of aqueducts. Using gravity alone, engineers carried fresh water from distant mountains into cities, supplying homes, fountains, baths, and public buildings.
Some aqueducts stretched more than 50 miles, and many are still standing today as monuments to Roman ingenuity.
These engineering marvels helped make Rome one of the cleanest and most advanced cities of the ancient world.
