According to legend, Rome was founded on April 21, 753 BC, by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. Their story begins with betrayal. Ordered to be abandoned as infants along the Tiber River, the twins were discovered and nursed by a she-wolf before being rescued and raised by a shepherd.
As the brothers grew older, they decided to establish a city of their own, but a bitter dispute over the city’s boundaries ended in tragedy when Romulus killed Remus. In 753 BC, Romulus founded Rome upon the Palatine Hill and became its first king.
Whether myth or history, the story symbolizes resilience, destiny, and the fierce determination that would come to define one of history’s greatest civilizations.
