Massimo Cristaldi Cristaldi Pictures Courtesy of Echelon Entertainment 2 Massimo Cristaldi began his career in film production in 1974 when he began work as a production assistant for his father, legendary Italian producer Franco Cristaldi in the family business Vides Cinematografica (from 1980 known as CRISTALDI FILMS). Beginning in 1983, Massimo worked on numerous features and television productions involving illustrious Italian and international directors such as Federico Fellini, Giuseppe Tornatore and Franceso Rosi. His producing credits are a roll-call of the greatest exponents of the cinema arts and industry, not only in Italy, but internationally and include Divorce-Italian Style, Amarcord, Cinema Paradiso, Big Deal on Madonna Street, Salvatore Giuliano, Seduced and Abandoned, Senso, Bitter Rice and The Name of the Rose. Following the death of Franco Cristaldi in 1992, Massimo Cristaldi took over CRISTALDI FILMS. He continues to oversee the sales of its renowned film library, which currently includes nearly 250 titles, many of which are regarded as milestones in Italian film history. In addition to countless Italian and European awards, CRISTALDI FILMS won three Academy Awards, receiving Oscars for best Foreign Language Picture with Federico Fellini's Amarcord and Guiseppe Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso, and for Best Original Screenplay with Pietro Germi's Divorce Italian Style. The company's worldwide hit, The Name of the Rose set a new Italian box office record when it was released and created a new standard for international co-productions. In 1993 Massimo Cristaldi founded CRISTALDI PICTURES, building on the groundwork established by his father and continuing Franco Cristaldi's entrepreneurial approach to film-making, focusing on both quality and commercial criteria, thus merging art and industry.
