    Tuscany is Italy's 5th largest region in total land with approximately 3/4 of the region being hilly or mountainous. It is surrounded by 5 regions and 2 bodies of water. It is bordered to the west by the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian seas, the south by the regions of Lazio and Umbria, a small portion of the east by the Marches, the north and north east are bordered by the region of Emilia Romagna and the north west tip borders the region of Liguria. The region itself consists of 287 comunes which reside in the following 10 provinces: Arezzo, Firenze, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa-Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.

    Much can be told about the history of Tuscany and in particular its role in the shaping of the Renaissance. Tuscany's name can be attributed to the Etruscan civilization, which settled in the area around 1000 BC. Throughout the centuries the region has contributed greatly to the world of art and architecture. It is one of the most famous places in the world because it offers something for everyone. Those that enjoy the sea can spend time on the coast. Skiers can make their mark on the Apuan Alps. Bikers, hikers and walkers can all enjoy the rolling hills and landscape that the region has to offer. Tuscany is full of tradition, charm and beauty all of which is waiting for your to discover.
