Welcome to Ischia
Ischia Travel Guide Dear Friend, I can't wait for the day when you will come to see me in Ischia, my green island off the coast of Naples and near the more famous Capri. Now, I'll give you some useful information so that you can have an unforgettable vacation here. You will have no problems because I will be your driving tour guide. But if I wasn't available, I would advise you to take a nice bus from the port to your hotel to avoid the expensive taxis. The island is beautiful all year, but I suggest you visit me in May, June, July, or September. August is also nice, but it's chaotic and the beaches are loaded with tourists. Ischia is a place for everyone - from young people to senior citizens and especially children because the island is full of walking zones, therefore, at certain times of the day roads are completely closed to traffic. Families also can appreciate the pine forests which are well maintained. I don't believe that two or three days will be enough to see everything. Even if the island is only 46 kmq, there are surprises at every bend. Naturally, you will learn that Ischia is a volcanic island and therefore we can take advantage of the natural thermal benefits. The ocean is beautiful and the water is clean. You must know that there are beaches with pools filled with naturally hot water (for spa treatments) and others, where the sand is boiling so that you can use it for healing purposes or to cook items in tin foil as you would on a barbecue or spit. Like all places in Italy, each comune or town in Ischia has its own customs and traditions. The various festivals and feasts get underway beginning in the spring and continue through October (at least in recent years). Examples include the festival of chestnuts and another for mushrooms. Often, these celebrations take place in the piazza with music, bites to eat, and flowing wine. Let's not wait another minute to get started on our tour. We hope this guide will spark your interest in visiting our beautiful island. We look forward to seeing you soon. With much love, Antonio Gerenini and Francesca Di Meglio
