Basilica di San Paolo fuori le mura
Start Here for a photo tour of the Basilica di San Paolo fuori le mura, or select from the list below. The basilica is more commonly known as St. Paul Outside the Walls and it is one of Rome's four ancient major basilicas. The other three are St. John Lateran (San Giovanni in Laterano), St. Mary Major (Santa Maria Maggiore), and St. Peter's (San Pietro). The basilica was founded over the burial place of Saint Paul, which was along the Ostiense Way outside the Aurelian Walls surrounding Rome. It is also the second largest church in Rome behind St. Peter's.
