Minturno Photo Gallery

Start here for a photo tour of the comune of Minturno, which is a town located in the province of Latina in the Lazio region, or select from the list below. It is situated on the west coast of Italy along the Via Appia. The history of the town dates back to the 7th century B.C. where is was founded by the Etruscans. It was originally called Clanis until the Greeks renamed it Minturne, which means town surrounded by mountains. Unfortunately in 314 B.C. the town was destroyed by the Romans. It was later rebuilt only to be destroyed again by the Goths and the Longobards. The citizens that survived moved to a neighboring hill and rebuilt the town of Traetto. It wasn't until the 19th century that they renamed this town Minturno. The town is rich in history and antiquities and worth a visit if you are ever in the area.
