  • David

Start Here for a photo tour of Michelangelo's David, or select from the list below. This masterpiece by Michelangelo was created between 1501 and 1504 and represents the Biblical hero David. The statue was originally placed outside in the Piazza della Signoria. In 1873 it was moved to the Accademia Gallery in Florence and a copy of the statue was put in its place in the square. The statue was made out of marble from Carrara. The sculpture was intended to be placed on the roof of the Cathedral, but after many discussions it was decided to place the sculpture at the entrance of the Palazzo della Signoria.
