    NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE AND INTERROGATIVE-NEGATIVE FORMS ARE THE SAME FOR ALL VERBS
    FORME NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE E INTERROGATIVE-NEGATIVE SONO UGUALI PER TUTTI I VERBI

    Examples with the verb to be
    Esempi con il verbo essere (ESsere)

    (io) non sono (I am not) (io) sono? or sono io? (am I?)

    (tu) non sei (you are not) (tu) sei? or sei tu? (are you?)

    (lei) non è (you are not) (lei) è? or è lei? (are you?)

    (lui) non è (he is not) (lui) è? or è lui? (is he?)

    (noi) non siamo (we are not) ecc. etc.

    (voi) non siete (you are not)

    (essi-loro) non sono (they or you (plural) are not)

    (io) non sono? or non sono io? (am I not?)

    (tu) non sei? or non sei tu? (are you not)

    (lei) non è? or non è lei? (are you not?)

    ecc. etc.

    • Italian pronouns between parenthesis may be used or not in accordance with the meaning (emphasizing or not) of a sentence.
    • Examples: Sei straniero? No, non sono straniero, ma sono forestiero. (Are you a stranger? No, I am not a stranger, but I am a foreigner). Lei non abita a Parigi? Sì, abito a Parigi. (Are you not living in Paris? Yes, I live in Paris). Sono io matto o lo sei tu? (Am I crazy or are you?) Non siamo tutti messicani, infatti Maria è argentina. (We are not all Mexicans, in fact Mary is Argentinian). Oggi non è domenica (doMEnica), ma è lunedì. (Today is not Sunday, but Monday). Non sono nato il venerdì 26 giugno, ma il 26 maggio. E tu quando sei nato? Quando sono nato io mia sorella non era ancora nata. Ma non siete gemelli? Si, però mia sorella è nata dieci minuti dopo. (I was not born on Friday June 26th, but on May 26th. And when were you born? When I was born my sister was not born yet. But aren't you twins? Yes, but my sister was born ten minutes after me).
    • There is and there are correspond to Italian c'è (ci+è) and ci sono.
