In 1970 Mexico hosted the 9th World Cup Tournament. The finals had Brazil squaring off against Italy. In the end the Brazilians claimed their 3rd World Cup title leaving the Italians with second place. Once again the format stayed the same with 16 teams qualifying for the tournament and they were divided into 4 groups of 4. Italy was placed in Group 2 with Israel, Sweden and Uruguay. Italy finished first in Group 2 with a win and two draws allowing no goals. They advanced to the knockout stage where they defeated Mexico and West Germany before losing to Brazil in the finals. Below is list of the players that participated in the tournament, goals they scored and the results of each match the team played.
