In 1966 England hosted the 8th World Cup Soccer Tournament. When the dust settled England stood on top as World Cup Champions. Once again the format stayed the same. 16 teams qualified for the tournament and they were divided into 4 groups of 4. Italy was placed in Group 4 with Chile, Korea DPR and the Soviet Union. Italy finished with 1 win and 2 losses and out of contention for another championship.
