  • The 1954 Italian National Soccer Team

The fifth edition of the World Cup was held in Switzerland in 1954 with West Germany winning the title. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament. Once again the teams were divided into 4 groups. The top two teams from each group would advance to the quarterfinals. The way group stage was setup each team only played two games, so you did not play every team in your group. If there was a tie for the second spot a playoff was played to determine who would advance. Italy placed in Group 4 with England, Switzerland and Belgium. After their two matches Italy found themselves tied with Switzerland for the second spot. A playoff was needed to determine who would finish second. Italy did not fare well in the playoff and ended up finishing third in their group and missed out on advancing to the quarterfinals. Below is list of the players that participated in the tournament, goals they scored and the results of each match the team played.
