After a 12 year hiatus due to WWII the World Cup returned and Brazil was given the honor to host this fourth event in 1950, which was won by Uruguay. A total of 16 teams qualified for the tournament, but only 13 participated. The 1950 games was also the first time group play was introduced and the teams were divided into four groups. The winners of each group would advance to play in a round robin format. With India, Scotland and Turkey withdrawing before the tournament this caused some of the groups to have less than four teams. Unlike the previous two World Cup Tournaments things did not go well for the Italian National Team. Italy was in Group 3 with India (who withdrew), Paraguay and Sweden. Italy ended up finishing 2nd and did not qualify to move on. Below is list of the players that participated in the tournament, goals they scored and the results of each match the team played.
