  • The 1934 Italian National Soccer Team

The second World Cup was hosted by Italy in 1934 and the host nation of Italy won the event. This was Italy's first World Cup Tournament. Italy did not participate in the 1930 World Cup Championship. The defending champions Uruguay opted not to send a team to defend their title. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament. They used a knockout format, which was different than the current group play. In the end Italy claimed their first World Cup Championship and was awarded the World Cup, which was called "Victory." It was not until 1946 that the name was changed to the Jules Rimet Trophy in honor of FIFA President Jules Rimet. Italy also became the first European nation to win the title. Below is list of the players that participated in the tournament, goals they scored and the results of each match the team played.
