    Assisi

Assisi is a small town that thrives off of tourists who visit the city on religious pilgrimages to Saint Francis of Assisi's Basilica.

The first thing we did when we arrived was go on a three mile uphill hike to get to Rocca Maggiore, a fortress that looks over Assisi. With a panoramic view, the fortress was built in in the perfect location to see any oncoming attacking forces. Standing in this location also gave us the benefit of enjoying what truly is a spectacular view.

After our hike, we went into Saint Francis' Basilica. St. Francis' is home to the burial of Saint Francis and is also home to the Franciscan Order. This Order is the first out of Three Orders in the Catholic Church of the Franciscan Movement, which is the push for the religious and spiritual teaching of Saint Francis to be taught to all.

The basilica was modeled in a gothic style and contains a multitude of paintings and intricate carvings throughout the upper and lower basilicas of the church.
