  • The Best of Italy Tour 2016

    Pisa

    Leaning Tower of Pisa
Pisa was an interesting trip to say the least. We only spent roughly two hours there, but we still managed to see just about everything. Pisa used to be a military sea port even though the sea or a river is nowhere in sight, but it quickly turned into a small city. With five main points, the Baptistry, the church, the tower, the cemetery and the hospital, all being located within a quick walking distance from each other we were fortunate to have a very enthusiastic tour director, Ricardo, who was ready to tackle all that Pisa had to offer. We started off first with the Baptistry, which was also built on a significant slant, but since it is not as tall as its famous counterpart, it is not noticeable. The Baptistry is also known for its amazing acoustics, to which we were able to listen to a worker demonstrate her singing skills in the acoustic space.

From there we headed into the Cattedrale Pisa, which has a complete marble exterior. The interior, which included golden ceilings and many beautiful paintings is also home to the burial site of Roman Emperor Henry VII.

    *TRAVEL TIP*
There is an X in the marble landing outside of the Cattedrale Pisa that faces the leaning tower. That is were to stand to get your perfect picture of holding up the tower.

Once our tour was finished, we went and walked through all of the street vendors, which managed to shout out many interesting things to grab the American tourists' attention. From there, we headed back to Florence for a night of free time.
