Travel Log: What Happens If You Get Sick or Hurt When Vacationing in Italy?
Part 3 of 3: My Italian Boyfriends Give Me Lots to Think about Continued from page 2 I had two more days to kill before going home to the United States when I returned to my cousin's house that afternoon. Luckily, through this whole ordeal, many relatives distracted me with conversation. Not to mention visits from two of Fausto's handsome friends: Antonio Gerenini and Emilio Buonvisi. The three of them embody the very things that make Ischia a temptress - beauty, kindness and gallantry. Emilio makes you feel like an old friend when you've known him for just a few minutes. That smile of his is just like the ocean on Ischia's most popular beach Maronti - inviting and full of life. Antonio treats every woman like a lady with the grace of Cary Grant and the wit of Tom Hanks. He talks to you with those saucer eyes that match Ischia's highest point Monte Epomeo in their grandeur. Just like the island that they call home, Fausto, Emilio and Antonio are full of potential, on the brink of exceptional success. I worry for them. There's a level of comfort and security on the island that they couldn't find anywhere else. But job opportunities are scarce, and you're bound to meet the same people over and over again. I'm torn. Ischia wouldn't be the same without them. But I want to return to Ischia someday to hear that Fausto, Emilio and Antonio are off somewhere pursuing their dreams, each with a good woman by his side. As much as I am drawn to Ischia's simpler life and extraordinary natural beauty, I know it's easy to get stuck on the "green island" even without a knee injury. And my boys deserve more than paradise.
