Italian Nobel Prize in Physics Winners
Italian Nobel Prize Winners
The Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. This prize is awarded annually in Stockholm, Sweden during a formal ceremony on December 10. Since 1901 there have been six winners of Italian descent of this prestigious award. Each recipient is listed below with the year they won the award and the reason they were chosen. In some instances the award was shared and in those cases the other recipients are listed.

nuclear reactions brought about by slow neutrons" |

| Emilio Gino Segrè |
1959 |
"for their discovery of the antiproton" |
| Segrè shared the prize with Owen Chamberlain. |

| Carlo Rubbia |
1984 |
"for their decisive contributions to the large project, which led to the discovery of the field particles W and Z, communicators of weak interaction" |
| Rubbia shared the prize with Simon van der Meer. |
|
| William D. Phillips |
1997 |
"for development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light" |
| Phillips shared the prize with Steven Chu and Claude Cohen-Tannoudji. |
|
| Riccardo Giacconi |
2002 |
"for pioneering contributions to astrophysics, which have led to the discovery of cosmic X-ray sources" |
| Giacconi received half of the prize while Raymond Davis Jr. & Masatoshi Koshiba each received 1/4 of the prize. |
